Florida- Day 1

Traveling took a while. We woke up early in the morning to drive to Sandy so that I could leave my car at my friends house (thank you Amanda) and then she would drive us to the airport. Our flight didn't leave until 10am, but Amanda had to be to work by 9am and so we had to be to her place by 8am and were at the airport way before we had to be. But, whatever, I'd much rather be early for a flight than late. Our first flight was a short 50 minute or so flight to Phoenix. We didn't have too much of a layover there before we hopped a 4+ hour flight to Orlando. Once in Florida we still had an hour car ride to Alysha's grandpa's house. Because of the 2 hour time difference, by time we got to her grandpa's house, it was pretty late Florida time.

We got to the house and her grandpa wanted to show us around. Goodness gracious is he an Elvis fan!!!! His bedroom, his bathroom, his hallway, and his car port are all FULL of Elvis stuff. Apparently his collection had grown tremendously since Alysha had last seen it because she was flabbergasted. I thought it was funny. Not that I had done much of anything that day, but I was pretty tired. Problem was, once Alysha and I got changed for bed, we weren't tired any more. For some reason we got into bed and suddenly had so much to say to each other. And we were giggly. Oh, I hate when I get that giggly, it's never good :o) We kept on saying how we needed to just calm down and go to bed, but as soon as we got relaxed, one of us would laugh for no apparent reason and then it would all start over again.

It turned out to be a good thing that we hadn't fallen asleep right away though. Around 11:00pm Florida time I got a phone call from an 801 number that I didn't recognize. I decided to answer it. It turned out to be the principal at Geneva Elementary.
*Okay, rewind real quick to explain the story here. Geneva is one of the schools I student taught at and I loved it. I applied for a second grade position there (the same grade I student taught in) and I really really really wanted it. Plus, there were other teachers there that wanted me to get the job, and it wasn't bad that the vice principal there really liked me too. I wanted the job so much that I turned down a job offer I had gotten the week before. Oh my gosh. I was TERRIFIED to turn down the job, but I didn't want to take it if I was going to be offered the job at Geneva. But after I hung up with the principal at the other school I convulsed because of what I had just done. Because if I didn't get the job at Geneva, then I had just royally screwed myself over. So now you know the background of this call, I'll proceed.*
The principal called me and offered me the second grade position at Geneva. I told him that I would absolutely take the job and thank you so much! He said that to make it all official there were some things he had to talk to me about and some questions he had to ask me. The only problem was, at that moment, he was at Disneyland, so could I call back on Friday morning when he was back in the office? Haha. I had to laugh right there because on Friday I was going to be at Disneyworld. He got a chuckle out of that too and he said it would be fine if I came in on Tuesday when I was back.

Oh my word. I was SO excited. I could really enjoy the vacation now that I knew that I for sure had a job in the Fall and had not ruined my chances by turning down the other offer. I called my parents first and then sent out a couple of texts. Poor Alysha by this time was actually ready for sleep, but one of the teachers at Geneva called me to congratulate me and we talked for a little bit.

After the phone calls and everything were over though, I realized how funny it was that the conversation and job offer happen so late. It was 11:00pm Florida time (where I was) which means it was 9:00pm Utah time (where the principal thought I was) which made it 8:00pm California time (where the principal was). I knew that he had called me as soon as he knew that I was cleared and could offer me the job and for that, I was very grateful!!!

It was quite a good way to end the night.
