Valentine's Day was on a Sunday this year, so Clayton and I were planning on making the whole weekend a Valentine's celebration. Good intentions, but it was a roller-coaster the whole weekend. It started off fantastically when he ordered flowers and sent them to me at school on Friday. A-dorable! The best was the reaction from the girls in my class. "Are the from a boy?" "Yes" "Oooohhhhhhh!!!!" So cute, so cute. After school I got pretty busy and got a later start up there than I wanted, so I of course got stuck in traffic and had a miserable drive up there. When I got there he comes walking out with a teddy bear in his hands, and the teddy bear is wearing the watch he bought me. So cute, but I was a little too cranky from the drive, and a little too not expecting to share presents right then that I didn't react the way he wanted. So the poor guy didn't think I liked the gift. Not true! I loved it!! Then we headed out to dinner. Dinner didn't go as we had planned because it was at dinner that I reminded him that we had plans that he completely forgot about and that we wouldn't have time for after dinner ended. Plus our waitress was slow, and the steak that I ordered well done had some definite pink in it. So at dinner Clayton was still beating himself up over forgetting our plans, and some other things he was harping on himself for, plus I was tired, plus I wasn't as impressed with the restaurant as I was hoping I would be. We went home, and we were so tired that we just fell asleep. Not the greatest Valentine's activity, but it was okay.
Saturday he had ski patrol, so we were up and out early in the morning. Ski patrol is fun for me because I get to go up snowboarding, but it's also not fun for me because it's a lot of waiting around when he has to fulfill his obligations. One time when he was out doing bobsled training I did go out by myself. On the first run down, I twisted my knee. Not too bad, so I went down again. That time I did something weird and I slammed my head against the ground. By then, I figured, he'd be just about done, and so I went to the top and waited in the patrol room for him. I waited for an hour. After an hour, I was so antsy to get back out, that I didn't care how scared I was to go down. I just gave up on trying to learn the proper way to go down (the reason I've been falling more now is because I'm trying to do it the right way, not the safe/easy way), and I just made it safely down any way I could. When I got to the top that time, he had just made it back. We had lunch and headed out again. After getting hurt, I got really frustrated at the whole sucking thing, and so I was pretty much miserable company. I really hate being bad at things, so I was not in a good mood. And then poor Clayton didn't realize how grumpy I was, so he was trying to joke around with me and I was NOT having it. So although I wasn't really mad at him, I definitely took it out on him. Luckily after a couple of runs I was able to change my attitude and started having fun again. But, then I had more wait time as he cleaned up a blood injury, which ended up waisting my time for one last run. Not anticipating ending so soon and having so much time to wait for him to close the runs, I got a little aggravated again, but I calmed myself down because he had no control over any of it and he was just doing his job.
I don't even know why, but we started fighting on the drive home and the last 10-15 minutes of the drive was in silence. That's never a good thing, because if you give me quiet time, I'll have lots of time to do some negative reflective thinking. So by time we got back, I took my stuff straight up to my room to get ready for the rest of the night. I wanted to bad to cry because I realized that Clayton and I just don't match up, but I couldn't cry, because of that dang logical head of mine. I got all ready to go, but couldn't get my watch on, and took it down to Clayton so he could help me. I wouldn't look at him and he said, "Somethings wrong" "Yep" I went and sat down on the couch and started crying. I don't think he knew what to do with that. He tried to get me to talk about it, but I really didn't want to. I went up stairs to cry on the bed instead and then sent him a text message saying that we didn't fit. He came up and after a lot of coaxing he got me to talk. In my broken logic, I tried to explain what I was freaking out about, but it wasn't really coming out right, and I couldn't remember all the arguments I had come up with in the car. Eventually I had just had enough crying and I calmed down and we headed out. That thing that we had planned to do on Friday was go look at rings. I have no idea what kind I want, and so we were just going to go look at some so I could get a feel of what types there are. Because we missed the boat on that one of Friday we were going to do it Saturday, but I really didn't feel like marrying him on Saturday so we blew those plans. I was also supposed to cook for him on Saturday so we could avoid crowded restaurants, but by the time I was done having my mini-break down, I was hungry and didn't want to have to go to the store, get the stuff, then wait while it cooked. If we had done that, we wouldn't have eaten until after 9:00. So we went out to eat and then drove up Ogden Canyon to look at the city lights. So the rest of the evening picked up, but I had already done a lot of damage. Day number two of Valentine's weekend- sunk :o(
Yesterday was actually Valentine's Day, and even though we didn't do anything big, it was the most enjoyable, because it was the day that we got along the best. We went to church at his home ward, which was nice, because I got to talk to his mom and sister Stephanie before and after Relief Society, and the Sunday School lesson was much better this time than last time. Then we came home, talked, watched the Proposal, and relaxed. Right before dinner, I got into watching the NASCAR race with his dad, I didn't know it would be so easy to get sucked into that, it always seemed so boring. But after dinner we went down stairs and went through a list of questions that all couples should discuss before they get married. When we didn't have any major disagreements with those, I felt much better about things (you know, that freak out was still lingering just a little). Then we studied scriptures, he showed me his favorite video game, and then it was time for bed. Final day of Valentine's weekend- Score!

Clayton
Yeah, I guess it's about time that I had a post about my boy toy. It hasn't been very long, so you would think that there wouldn't really be that much to write. But if you're thinking like that, then you're wrong :o) Our first date (and he remembered this, not me) was December 5th. Cheri Mills set us up. She served the same mission as him, and she's in my ward. After getting to know how fabulous I am, she decided that I should meet Fowers, because apparently he's equally awesome. Since Cheri had snagged me a date, I snagged her a date with a boy in our ward, and the three of us headed north to Salt Lake while Clayton headed south to meet us in Salt Lake. We met on Temple Square and looked around at the lights. Now, I had gone more for cute than comfort or warmth, so I was pretty cold on this walk, and so it was a good thing that no one actually stopped to look at the lights. We all just kind of walked and talked, occasionally glancing up. Next stop was dinner. Cheri's date Jake used to work up in Salt Lake, so he listed off some different restaurants for us, and Cheri and Clayton chose Costa Vida. Fine with me. It was funny though, because we ran into two other guys from our ward there who were out on dates. On our walk, we were definitely paired off and kept conversations to our separate groups. At dinner we talked as the four of us, and it was pretty interesting conversation. Poor Cheri will never be able to view the Disney Princesses the same. Sorry hun. After dinner we went to the Planetarium and watched a light show. None of us were too impressed by it, so I wouldn't really recommend it. At the end of the date, it was a little awkward because Clayton hadn't parked in the same place as us, so at a corner he just started veering away. Luckily Cheri wanted a hug, so after she gave him one, I got one too. But we didn't exchange numbers or anything or say we should do it again, it was kind of abrupt. I didn't know what to think about that :o(
When we got home, Cheri of course wanted to know what I thought and how it went, so we had some girl talk. I told her that I had a really fun time, and we seemed to hit it off well. He was pretty cute, and pretty humorous. But really, I couldn't figure out why we got along so well. We are pretty opposite. He's pretty childish and immature, and our tastes don't exactly match up, and our sense of humors differ in certain areas. But, regardless of the facts, I had a fun time.
Then the middle school antics started. Because I didn't have his number and he didn't have mine, we had to rely on Cheri to be our middle woman. She asked him what he thought of the date and I found out through her, and he did the same to find out about me. It was funny, but I wanted to be able to talk to him myself, so I had Cheri give him my number. We started texting each other, every other day. He says he didn't plan it that way, but I'm convinced that he didn't want it to be every day so that he scared me off, so he did it every other so that I would know he was interested, but not desperate. I had already had plans to be up in Ogden the next weekend, but I wasn't sure how to let him know that. Although I am pretty forward in my flirting, I didn't really want to be that forward with him. So one day when I had had a pretty rough day at school I told him that I was so glad that I got a little break coming up. He of course asked what the break was, and I told him I was going up to Ogden. Then he freaking changed the subject :o( But it came back up later and he asked me "so, you know, that area is where I like to hang out, would you be interested in hanging out with me while you're up here?" Um duh, that's why I brought it up, I mean, "sure, sounds fun." So I had a nice visit with Grandma and Grandpa Smith, and then went and hung out with Clayton that night. I drove all the way out to his house, just for him to drive us back to South Ogden for dinner. I'm only exaggerating a little when I say that I was right down the street from Grandpa's house. It was a fun dinner. It was really easy to laugh and joke and have a good time. To keep it less planned, so that I could drive back whenever I needed, we went back to his place to play pool. My pool skills were pretty awesome that night, if you just ignore the fact that I knocked the 8 ball in like right away. So although he technically won both games, I had the better skills :o) I wasn't quite ready to leave yet, so we popped in a movie. He was so smooth too. We sat down and he went to put a pillow behind his head, and all of a sudden his arm was behind mine. Good move! Eew. The worst part of that date was the drive home. It was pretty late by time the movie and the talking was all over with, and I still had to make the 1 1/2 drive back. Not only that, but right as I headed out, it started snowing, so that slowed things down even more.
I was going to continue with the play-by-plays of the dates, but then decided that would take too long, so he came out to Orem the next weekend and we hung out, and then it was time for me to come home for Christmas break. Only guess what? Before I left, we arranged for him to be my personal shuttle from the airport to Grandpa's house, seeing as Grandma and Grandpa were going to Saint George and wouldn't be able to pick me up. Score!!! I went home and we talked the WHOLE time I was at home. Okay, when I say "talked" I really mean "texted" but it's the same thing. I feel that we grew a lot closer that week we were really far apart. I was also convinced that if I wanted it, I was going to have a boyfriend as soon as I got back to Utah. Ha, for once, I was actually looking forward to going back to Utah ;o) Yep, I was right. He picked me up from the air port (the delayed flight and airport hassle is a completely different story) we went back to his place and he started talking about dating, but he would come out and ask me to be his girlfriend, so I wasn't making it easy. But seeing as he's a little shy in the girl area, I finally broke down and asked, "Clayton, do you want me to be your girlfriend?" When he said yes, I told him that he had me then. Awwww :o)
The next day he taught me how to snowboard. That was pretty fun. I was pleased at how well I was doing that first day, and he was pretty pleased to not have to ride the ski lift alone :o) I've been coming up as often as I can to snowboard with him, but I haven't been too much. I think as of Saturday I've been four times. Yeah, so we try to rotate weekends who comes up and who comes down, but I prefer to go up because I can stay at his parents house and see him Friday and Saturday, where as if he comes down I just get him for a couple hours Friday night. Plus, when he comes over to my place, there's roommate drama that is easily avoided if I come up to him. And, we started a new thing where we meet in Salt Lake in the middle of the week so that we don't have to go so long without seeing each other. It helps because we both only have to travel both ways and I'm telling you. Seeing your boyfriend only once a week seriously sucks, so the Salt Lake trips help with that too.
I still find him pretty much amazing, even though we still don't match up on a lot of things, I still like to brag about him and talk him up. This is how perfect and well rounded he is. He works at a car place, so he's very hands on and mechanical. He's going to school to get into computers, so he's pretty smart and able to think through lots of problems. And, in his spared time, he volunteers on the ski patrol, so my little man is a little hero :o) What else makes me smile? Oh, it helps that he has a pretty awesome family, and it extra helps that they all approve of me :o) He's very affectionate and loves to hold my hand in public. Although he was a little bit in the dog house yesterday when he wouldn't give me a kiss in front of his family. Oh well, when he meets mine, I'll probably deny him too, so it'll even out soon. But yeah, he's amazing, and we still don't match up (I'll get there in the Valentine's post) but it's still working, and we're both not quite sure why, but we keep going with it.
So yeah, I keep thinking how weird it is that a random set up/blind date would work out so well, but it DEFINITELY is working out SO well!!!! Thanks Cheri, you're pretty much amazing!
When we got home, Cheri of course wanted to know what I thought and how it went, so we had some girl talk. I told her that I had a really fun time, and we seemed to hit it off well. I Have Free Time? No Way!
So, it's President's Day, and I have two hours of free time. I did enough lesson planning during the week, that I'm not worried about that, and my lesson prep only took me about an hour. Now, if I was in Orem, I would be in my classroom and have plenty to do, but seeing as I'm in Hooper, I've done all that I can, and still have to wait two hours before Clayton gets home. Now, I brought a book along with me to Hooper, so I REALLY want to be reading it, but seeing as I haven't blogged in quite some time, I figured I would try to knock out a post or two.
Let's see, I should probably write about my Christmas trip back home. But, seeing as it's been so long, I'm sure I'm going to leave out things. I know my family will comment and fill in any missing details though, I'm I feel good enough about writing now :o) Hmmm..... I couldn't go home until some ridiculous time like the 23rd or something because we were still in class. That was new to me. I usually scheduled Christmas break around finals, and I could always manage to knock out my finals in the first couple days and then peace out. Not this year. I went up to Ogden the night before, so that Grandpa could drive me to the airport. That was nice, because Aunt Leslie was over at Grandma and Grandpa Smith's so I got a nice little visit with her. Then it was to bed early because I had a pretty early flight to catch. And, knowing me, I was there WAY earlier than I needed to be, there was NO line, and so I waited a very long time in the airport. Whatever though, I was on my way home and didn't have much to worry about, so it just gave me extra time to read my John Grishem book. (Although, let's face it, sometimes there is only so much reading I can take, especially when other people are being noisy around me and I can't concentrate very well. So the wait in the airport wasn't really THAT okay.)
As soon as I'm home, Dad picks me up and drops me off at Kim's house. I walk into her place and it's swarming with little kids, not all of them hers :o) So I get big hugs and kisses from the boys, and then help Kim watch the other rascals that she's babysitting. Once the excess children left, I had lots of time to play with the baby. Oh, Aaron is so cute. He had just been testing out his walking ability, and when he took 14 steps toward me, that was the most he had ever gone (right after I left, he apparently started walking everywhere, so it's less exciting now, but it was fun for me). Then I helped pick up the house a little bit, and Kim was all set on having me cook dinner for her when Dana called and invited me over to play games at the Hansen's. Work for Kim? Or play with the Hansen's? Yeah, sorry Kim, Dana won out that time. So I went over and played some games with the Hansen family. Although I feel like that family is too cool for me, they are actually really nice, and I had a really fun time. Except I don't really like playing gambling games with them. One, because my luck sucks, and two, it was a new game to me so I had the unlucky advantage there again. They Hansens never gamble for money, they gamble for having to eat nasty crap. Lucky for me, the loser had to eat a slice of jalepeno. Not super fantastic, but something I could handle. Good thing too, because I had to do it like three times. LAME!
The next day was Christmas Eve already. I think I went and ran some errands with Dana. Yeah, shopping on Christmas Eve is not all that fun, it's crowded!!!! But whatev', I was just going to be cleaning the house anyway, so at least shopping with Dana gave me some company. I can't remember what else happen that day, but I know that that night we had our traditional beef stick and crackers for dinner while the whole family came by to visit (in shifts). Grandma and Granddad came by for a little while too.
Christmas Day wasn't like it used to be, but I guess that's just what happens when you grow up. Kim and Ben were going to have Christmas at their house first before coming over, which meant that no one else could open presents until 9:00, when they came over. I thought that was lame, but Dana told me that she and Josh wouldn't open presents either and that they'd wait just like Mom, Dad, and I so that made it easier. But, since we weren't opening presents real early, I decided I didn't have to get up super early. I set my alarm for 8:00 or something like that and I was all set to sleep in. Yeah, Dad had other plans. He called my phone at 6:00 and asked why I wasn't up yet. Because Christmas isn't starting until 9:00, now go back to sleep. I tried to go back to sleep, but only got in an extra half hour before Clayton texted me to tell me Merry Christmas. That was it, after being called and texted, I wasn't going to be able to fall back asleep, so I got up. And had nothing to do for a very long time :o( Dana and Josh came over and so we called Kim to see how close she was. The little booger hadn't even gotten dressed yet. So we ate breakfast while they lolly-gagged their way over to Mom and Dad's. Then the opening began. I got some fun stuff, but I hadn't asked for much, because it had to fit in a suitcase back. I think the "best" gift came from Kim. She had already told me that she was going to just give me money, and I told her she ruined the surprise and so she had better at least wrap it well. So she did. She wrapped it in at least three different boxes, with lots of wrapping paper, and lots of crazy-A ribbon. Then, when I finally got to it, it was a roll of gold coins. I was proud of her creativeness. Oh, but speaking of creative, Dana made me the most insane computer bag. I remember her asking me forever long ago which of two fabrics would make the cutest bag. I guess she had wanted to make it for me for my birthday, but it was taking too long, so she moved it to Christmas. She told me that she must really love me because the bag was such a dog-gone bugger to make (my words, not hers :o) Later that afternoon we headed up to Grandma and Granddad's house and had a nice family visit with them, and the Keith Kerby family. As always, that was a fun visit. The best part there was that the boys and Kristin started playing a hide and go seek game. Uncle Keith and Aunt Amy were ready to leave, so I called Jon to let him know, but he didn't answer. So I texted Jon and Ryan to tell them their family was leaving. They thought it was just a ploy to get them out of hiding, so they almost got left. Ha :o)
The day after Christmas I went shopping with Kim and Mom, then half way through the day it changed to Dana, Dad, Mom, and I. We did a lot of shopping that day :o) And, the greatest find of the day... I finally found a pair of black boots! I had been looking all over for a pair, and couldn't find cute ones. Then we walk into Papaya, and Dana points on the floor to a single pair of black boots. They're cute, I try them on, they're my size! It must have been meant to be Lo)
Now, I can't remember the dates of everything, but these are some of the other things I did while I was home. I hung out with Emily and Mindy so we could swap stories, seeing as we're all really bad at keeping in touch with each other. I went and saw a movie with Ryan Butler who I just so happened to run into Sunday at church. I went to the Wild Animal Park with Kim, Dad, and the boys. I went to La Jolla with Kim and the boys. I went to a Da Vinci exhibit at Balboa Park with Dana and Mom. Oh yeah, and I got new running shoes, and the second day I was testing them out with Kim and Dana on a nice, early morning run, Kim tripped me in the middle of the road and I seriously scrapped my hand. But instead of turning back, Kim gave me her extra top which I wrapped around my hand to stop the bleeding, and we kept going. We're hard core like that :o)
There's probably some other stuff in there that I'm leaving out, and sorry I'm not going into detail about the other activities, but I don't want this post to be a gabazillion pages long, and it definitely would be if I kept going. But like I said, if my family realizes I left something major out. By all means, let me know (in a nice way you boogers :o)
Let's see, I should probably write about my Christmas trip back home. But, seeing as it's been so long, I'm sure I'm going to leave out things.
